Purple Book Appointments

For all ages

In Western Australia, every new parent receives a special Purple Book, also known as My Personal Health Record, when their baby is born. This book is a treasure trove of important information about your baby, from birth details to immunisation schedules and developmental assessments at key ages. Each state in Australia has its own version in a different color—NSW, ACT, SA, and TAS have blue, QLD has red, VIC has green, and NT has yellow.

These developmental assessments are scheduled at crucial stages: birth to 14 days, 8 weeks, 4 months, 1 year, and 2 years old. These check-ins are designed to monitor your child’s growth and development, quickly identifying any delays so that treatment and therapies can start early. The sooner a delay is identified, the better the chances your child has to reach their full potential within the normal developmental range.

You might choose to skip the local Child Health Clinic for the developmental assessments and instead book with Baa Baa Baby. This way, you and your baby can build a special, consistent relationship with Monique, who will be there for you throughout their childhood.

What happens when I come and do a Purple Book Consultation home visit?

A one-hour, relaxed session where I come to your home. You’ll see exactly what I’m assessing in your child’s Purple Book under “Child Health Nurse Visits.” These developmental assessments include five key areas: communication, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, problem-solving, and personal-social development. Everything will be documented in your child’s Purple Book. We’ll chat about any concerns you might have about your child’s development, and I’ll write any necessary referrals. I’ll also use the Ages and Stages Developmental Questionnaires, a reliable screening tool that measures your child’s development in these five key areas. This will give us a clear picture of where your child stands in terms of developmental milestones for their age. This visit also allows me to discuss health tips and give you a heads-up on the exciting milestones ahead.
