baa baa baby services

Baa Baa Baby provides a service to Early Learning Centres that includes developmental assessments, general weight and height checks, assessments of any problem or behaviour issues that parent’s or educators may be concerned about with their child or students at the centre, plus Parent Education Workshops and Practicing Updates for centre staff.

I am offering this service as I know how busy parents are, they’re working full time and unable to attend their local Maternal, Child and Family Nurse for their child’s developmental assessment appointment. Children are being missed for early diagnosis of issues because they are not getting assessed in a timely manner because parents are too busy. This service can help to change this. I will charge you, the Early Learning Centre so that your parents can get this service for free.

When I come to your Early Learning Centre, I will spend an hour assessing children that have parents’ consent. I require a space that is private for the child that I’m assessing and if the parent is unable to attend, I will have the child’s favourite educator with me, so the child feels safe and it becomes a fun activity for them. Developmental assessments are at ages 4 months, 1 years old and 2 years old. These major assessments are highlighted in a child’s Purple Book which will be completed by me at each assessment. I request that the parents include their child’s Purple Book into their bag for the day so that I can fill them out. Other ages between these developmental assessments will only have a weight and height check.

On assessing a child with behaviour concerns I will use the Ages and Stages Developmental Questionnaires. This is a comprehensive, reliable screening tool that measures development in the 5 domains of, communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving and personal-social. I will get the parent to fill this out from their perspective. It’s a great way to start a conversation with the parents and their child’s educator, where the educator may have concerns or suspicions about a child, but is unable to address these with the parents. These questionnaires give me evidence for further referral to the State Child Developmental Service or to the family’s GP.

I am a registered health professional with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and follow the standards, codes, and guidelines of registration. Therefore, you will not see any testimonials on my website. Instead go to Google Business reviews: https://g.page/r/CcvxdW9CRCwqEAI/review
